ESPN Inside Deal Welcomes Scotty Nguyen, BabyOn its one-year anniversary, the ESPN.com poker news program “Inside Deal” welcomed “The Prince of Poker,” 1998 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event champ Scotty Nguyen. In celebration, a special “Baby-O-Meter” ran in the corner of the screen, counting the number of times Nguyen dropped his trademark word.

The rumored sale of the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas took center stage to open this week’s episode of “Inside Deal.” WSOP Vice President Ty Stewart joined the set via phone and explained, “We can’t predict the future, but I can tell you that the November Nine will definitely be played at the Penn and Teller Theater and big, large organizational meetings are already underway to host the 2011 WSOP at the Rio.” The action in the Main Event resumes on November 6th.

The broadcast, which is sponsored by Full Tilt Poker, began with five players and newly minted Titan Poker pro Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi as the chip leader. The final five consisted of two Aussies, two Canadians, and one Dane in a truly global event. Peter Jetten was the first casualty of the hour-long show, running K-5 of diamonds intoTyron Krost’s pocket tens. Jetten 4bet all-in pre-flop with the suited hand and despite hitting a five on the river, hit the exits in fifth place.

ESPN Ratings Up 15% for Poker Players Championship Broadcast

ESPN’s coverage of the 2010 World Series of Poker (WSOP) got off to a great start on Tuesday, improving its first week ratings by 15% from last year. The coverage highlighted some phenomenal play from a group of talented pros, which almost certainly helped boost ESPN’s ratings during the second hour of the broadcast.

The broadcast featured Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi winning his first gold bracelet in the $50,000 Poker Players Championship, and it earned a 0.60 metered market average during the 8:00 p.m. broadcast and a 0.71 metered market average during the 9:00 p.m. broadcast. The 0.7 combined average is up from last year’s 0.6 rating.

Aussie Millions Main Event Day 2 Airs on GSN

Coverage of the 2010 Aussie Millions on GSN rolled on Saturday night, with Paul Khoury and Grub Smith giving the call of Day 2 of the Main Event. A total of 746 players entered the AUD $10,000 buy-in tournament and the field had been slashed to 294. Full Tilt Poker sponsors the series and new episodes air on Saturdays at 9:00pm ET on GSN.

Antonis Kambouroglou raised to 4,200 pre-flop with a wired pair of jacks and 2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Europe Main Event champion John Juanda moved all-in over the top for 42,500 with A-J. Kambouroglou quickly called and the board of 3-3-6-4-2 was no help to the Full Tilt pro, who was now free to enjoy all that Melbourne, Australia has to offer.

The Aussie Millions on GSN: Shak Defeats Ivey for $100K Title

There aren’t too many poker players who can say that they’ve gone heads-up with Phil Ivey and come away with the best of it. However, with his victory in the $100,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em High Roller event at the 2010 Aussie Millions, Dan Shak was granted membership to that elite club. When we last left off, four players remained in the hunt for the title, Tony Bloom holding the chip lead while Bill Jordanou was on the short stack. Here’s how they stacked up at the top of the episode:
